About Our Play School

Little Nest is a Licensed Small Family Home Daycare that facilitates hands-on, child-led learning in a way that emphasizes community, love of learning, creativity, and holistic health in a loving environment akin to the child's own home. Our preschool follows the well-rounded and state-aligned curriculum from Mother Goose Time. Children from the age 2 1/2 to 5 are welcome to join our loving community on a daily basis.

Our Philosophy

Our approach to child learning is play-based and influenced by a variety of education methods, including Montessori and Classical. We believe that by giving children the independence to make choices within safe boundaries, introducing them to the basics of liberal arts and sciences, and cultivating their imaginations, we will help each child become the best version of him/herself. We emphasize well-being on many levels, including an appreciation for beauty, a sense of self worth, and a thirst for knowledge. Children will learn to ask questions about the world and seek answers, fostering a lifelong love of life and learning.

At first glance, our classroom looks just like a playroom; in fact, the majority of our curriculum looks a lot like playing. As children participate in various structured and unstructured activities, such as circle time, crafts, building, reading, singing, pretending, and gardening, they are also developing important skills that will empower them to become fulfilled individuals both in school and in their daily lives. Even something as simple as building blocks with friends creates spatial awareness, math abilities, and social skills. Each day is a new opportunity to learn from our experiences and grow. By continually presenting healthy challenges, providing encouragement, and helping children achieve their goals, we will help them build confidence in their abilities and become prepared to take on future demands.

We also emphasize building community and doing our part to understand and help those around us. When possible, we will visit nursing homes, assemble packages for the needy, write thank-you notes to service members, and find other ways to contribute what we can. Through working together to help improve the lives of ourselves and others, children will learn teamwork, kindness, compassion, respect, cooperation, and many other virtues essential to thriving as an individual, as well as a member of a larger community. Each child is capable of making a difference, and hopefully will become inspired to continue this work throughout his/her lifetime.
